Promoting Polish Heritage
Who We Are
The Polish Supplementary School Council of America was established in 1925 on the initiative of Wacław Bojan-Błażewicz, editor of "Nowy Świat". It was founded in response to the closure of bilingual ethnic schools, with the mission of preserving the Polish language and Catholic values. Its responsibilities also included overseeing educational institutions across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida. Thus, it emerged as an institution serving as a Polish-American board of education, undertaking cooperation with school administrators and teaching staff across the developing network of Polish schools.
100 Years of CPSD in the USA
On November 8, within the elegant setting of The Royal Manor in Garfield, NJ, a formal Centennial Jubilee Gala was held to celebrate 100 years of the Polish Supplementary School Council of America.
This distinguished event brought together representatives from Polish-American education, academia, culture, and diplomacy to commemorate a century of tradition, growth, and dedication of the Council uniting Polish supplementary schools along the East Coast of the United States.
Promoting Polish Heritage
The Polish Supplementary School Council of America (CPSD) is the largest organization supporting Polish education on the East Coast of the United States, founded in 1925. Today, it unites 72 schools across 10 states, serving over 9,000 students and employing 918 teachers. The CPSD coordinates school activities, administers Polish as a Foreign Language certification exams and the WLCE exam, and conducts pedagogical workshops and conferences through its Local Methodological Center (LOM).
The organization collaborates with leading universities in Poland, including UMCS, KUL, the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, and the University of Silesia. It maintains close partnerships with the Piłsudski Institute, the Kosciuszko Foundation, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York. The primary sponsor of our schools is the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union.
The CPSD organizes cultural and educational events, such as "Literary Autumn," the "Polish Supplementary Schools Festival," and the annual "High School Prom," while also publishing the educational journal "Asystent" and granting scholarships.
In 2025, the Council celebrates 100 years of service dedicated to the education and cultural identity of Polish-American youth.
